cranberries: uses for cranberries besides sauceGrowing up, cranberries graced our dining room table once a year in the form of Oceanspray Jellied Cranberry Sauce.

I think it was the one time of year my mother was most excited about food. Roasted turkey and cranberry jelly were one of the highlights of her year. I think if we could have afforded them, she would have eaten them both once a week.

And while my mother roasted turkey until it was sawdust dry, her love for turkey and cranberries inspired me to do the same.

Still today, Thanksgiving is not Thanksgiving if I don’t have turkey and cranberries. Although today, my Thanksgiving cranberries don’t come from a can. Instead, they show up in a fresh homemade cranberry relish used to complement the turkey not cover up its dryness.

I’m lucky because today those beautiful little deep rich ruby-red tart cranberries are no longer reserved for once a year in my house. I have more uses for cranberries besides cranberry sauce, such as salads, granola, baked goods, as toppings or just to eat in a mixture of fresh, frozen or dried.

At Thanksgiving, I stock the freezer with bags of fresh cranberries while they are on sale. Frozen, they will last close to a year.

And while cranberries do make a beautiful sauce, they are so good in so many other dishes as well. So I made you a list of uses for cranberries besides cranberry sauce to inspire you to use cranberries all year-long in more ways than one.

      1. I am having a hard time deciding but the short list is now the Broccoli Slaw, Baked Brie or the Cranberry Relish. They all sound really good and I know any one I pick will be a hit with my friends. Yum!

        1. Good luck with the decision. I’m looking forward to trying the Cherry Cranberry Glazed Turkey one. They all look so yummy, I’m thinking of extra cranberries just to try them all 🙂
