The art of cooking is all about being present so that you can create those wonderful balances of flavors.  It’s also about adding plenty of love and paying attention to what we eat.

Now if you don’t know anything about being present and in the moment, it’s time to learn.  Being present means that you’re aware of what’s happening right now, right this very second and your head isn’t lost in the clouds of worrying about the past or the future.  I’ve learned to notice when I make a lot of mistakes while cooking, it’s because I’m focusing on something besides that moment.

I can always tell when I’ve reached that perfect groove while cooking.  I know I’m in the moment and everything else just melts away.  There’s no more worries about bills that need paid or my next class, all the worries big and small just melt away; it’s only the colors of the veggies, the beautiful cuts of the knife, how the flavors of the spices play on my tongue, the wonderful aromas swirl around me.  I feel the music (I love to listen to a mixture of my favorite tracks while cooking), my hips are swaying to the sounds and life is great right then.  I feel a sense of peace and happiness as I enjoy the flavors of life.

I ran across this video featuring Cynthia Liar when she spoke at a TED event (Nutritionist, Cook, Motivational Speaker).  Her powerful speech really spoke to me because she talks about how cooking is a form of meditation and spiritual practice.  I could not agree more.  I thought it would be fun to share with you and hope you ‘ll find it as much of an inspiration as I did.
